What is Travel Companion?
We understand that your trip can take a year to save for, but only a second to ruin. While you can't do anything to prevent the unexpected, you can do something to help cover your travel investment. The Travel Companion Plan may be purchased to do just that.
Summary of Coverage and Services
Trip Cancellation and InterruptionUp to Total Trip Cost
Covers up to the total trip cost for Non-Refundable cancellation charges including airfare cancellation charges and unused prepaid expenses if clients cancel or interrupt their trip due to one of the following covered reasons:
  • Injury, sickness or death of an Insured, a Traveling Companion, Family Member, or Business Partner
  • Financial Default {please note that financial default coverage takes effect 8 days following purchase of the plan; no default coverage for the first 7 days}
  • Unforeseeable circumstances such as the Insured or Traveling Companion is required to serve jury duty, subpoena, a primary residence is made uninhabitable natural disaster or involvement in a traffic accident en route to destination.
Bedside Traveling CompanionMaximum of $100 per day up to Trip Cost payable under Trip Interruption
Reimburses for reasonable additional expenses incurred for hotel and meals to remain near a hospitalized traveling companion or family member.
Note: A PRE-EXISTING CONDITION EXCLUSION applies to all coverages.
TheInsurer will not pay for any loss or expense incurred as the result of an Injury, Sickness or other condition of an Insured, Traveling Companion, Business Partner, or Family Member booked to travel with the Insured which, within the 60 day period immediately preceding and including the Insured’s coverage effective date: (a) first manifested itself, worsened or became acute or had symptoms which would have prompted a reasonable person to seek diagnosis, care or treatment; (b) for which care or treatment was given or recommended by a Physician; (c) required taking prescription drugs or medicines, unless the condition for which the drugs or medicines are taken remains controlled without any change in the required prescription drugs or medicines.
Trip Delay$1,000
Reimburses for additional meals, taxi fares, phone calls and lodging if a person is delayed for 12 hours or more en route to their trip due to: (a) the Insured or Traveling Companion is quarantined; (b) Common Carrier delay; (c) Inclement Weather which prohibits Insured’s departure; (d) the Insured’s or Traveling Companion’s lost or stolen passports, travel documents, or money; (e) Natural Disaster; (f) Strike; (g) the Insured being involved in or delayed due to a traffic accident while en route to a departure as substantiated by a police report.
Missed Connection$1,000
Covers the prepaid, unused portion of an insured client's trip, additional accommodations and traveling expenses for Insureds who miss the Trip departure solely due to weather-related flight cancellation or flight delay of 3 or more hours.
Baggage and Personal Effects Loss$1,500
Covers expenses for loss, theft, or damage to baggage and personal effects while on the Trip.
Baggage Delay$500
Covers expenses of necessary personal effects needed if an Insured's baggage is delayed for more than 24 hours.
Accident Medical Expense$50,000
Covers the expenses for necessary medical services or supplies if an insured client suffers an injury while on the Trip.
Sickness Medical Expense$50,000
Covers the expenses for necessary medical services or supplies if an insured client suffers an illness while on the Trip.
Emergency Evacuation/Repatriation of Remains$50,000
Provides coverage for immediate transportation from the place where an Insured client is injured or sick to the nearest medical facility where appropriate treatment may be obtained and transportation home if necessary, including medical escort and supplies.
Worldwide Emergency Assistance Service 24 Hours
One of the valued benefits offered by Travel Companion is the 24 Hour Emergency Assistance Services. You'll have access to the services of a highly trained, multi-lingual staff around the clock to assist you with such emergencies as travel changes, lost luggage, cash transfers, lost documents, medical or legal monitoring or referrals. They are also equipped to respond to many unexpected circumstances, such as arranging air ambulance transportation in medical emergencies. If an emergency should arise during your trip, call the Travel Companion insurance desk immediately and give the details of your problem or medical emergency.
